INDICATION: Neck mass anteriorly thought to represent a thyroglossal duct cyst. Anterior neck tenderness.

TECHNIQUE: Axial images of the neck from the level of the frontal sinuses to the thoracic inlet following intravenous contrast.

FINDINGS:

The visualized portions of the brain are normal. The orbits are likewise unremarkable. The paranasal sinuses are clear with hypoplastic frontal sinuses bilaterally.

The parotid glands show no masses. The submandibular glands are likewise unremarkable. There is a soft tissue mass embedded in the strap muscles which is cystic in nature and measures approximately 2.2 cm x 2.0 cm x 2.8 cm in transverse, AP, and superior-inferior dimension. The lesion extends from the bottom of the hyoid bone to the thyroid notch. There is no solid component to the lesion and no enhancing areas.

The trachea, esophagus, and thyroid gland otherwise are unremarkable. The larynx shows no abnormalities. The upper lung fields are clear.

The cervical spine is unremarkable. The vascular structures are likewise normal in appearance.

IMPRESSION:

Thyroglossal duct cyst extending from the hyoid bone to the thyroid cartilage embedded in the strap muscles measuring 2.2 x 2.0 x 2.8 cm.
