Case 2 - Clavicular Fracture

EXAM: XR Clavicle Left
CLINICAL INDICATION: Shoulder injury.
FINDINGS:
Bones: Acute fracture of the mid to distal left clavicle shaft with overlap. A small nondominant osseous
fragment measuring up to 1.7 cm in length appears displaced inferiorly from the
lateral fracture fragment.
Joints: No significant widening of the acromioclavicular joint. No widening of
the coracoclavicular distances Mild degenerative changes the acromioclavicular
joint.
Soft Tissues: Associated soft tissue swelling/irregularity.
IMPRESSION:
Acute fracture of the mid to distal left clavicle shaft. Avulsion fracture of a nondominant osseous fragment from the inferior aspect of the lateral clavicular fracture fragment. However, no
significant AC joint separation by radiographs. Please correlate with clinical
exam or signs of ligamentous injury.

EXAM: XR chest
Clinical Indication: Trauma; shoulder injury with clavicular tenderness
Findings/Impression: Clear lungs. Heart and mediastinum within normal limits. Degenerative changes of the left AC joint. Bones and soft tissues are otherwise normal. If there is point tenderness or concern for clavicular injury, dedicated views are recommended.
